GRASS SEEDS Marley (Part 1)

Monday 6th April 2020

Drawing Attention to GRASS SEEDS after last year we took in an Emaciated Dehydrated Young Male Spaniel in 2019 whom we named Marley. Marley had great difficulty walking and was in a pretty bad way. He was seen immediately by our vet who kept him in to a) get fluids in to him b) to start a refeeding programme and c) begin the process of removing the grass seeds deeply embedded in his paws an legs..... Marley underwent an operation to remove 52 Seeds, after a couple of days he came back to us to focus on his recovery and weight gain. He sought comfort from being with the pack and they became his security, His paws were dressed most days as keeping bandages dry was an issue! We noticed there were a few areas that were starting to fester and another operation followed with the removal of more seeds then again 10 days later to remove a couple more. A total of 62 Seeds were removed from this boys Paws !! Through his recovery we watched him steadily gain weight, gain confidence and watched him run for the first time with out a care in the world which was a very emotional moment....
Its advisable to keep the hair between your dogs toes short and after walking in long grassy areas check their paws for any lumps/swellings and ears.. as left untreated this not only causes pain for your dog but can also lead to infection.
