Dexter

Friday 26th July 2024

Dexter failed his assessment with A&S Police and came back to us 3 weeks ago. He was proving too much dog on outside searches as in his natural prey drive was taking over and would switch off from the task in hand .. Dexter settled in so well when he came back .. (paws went up and a high 5 'hi guys I'm back !!) Yes a bit full on in house to start with but that soon calmed down. Firm guidance and boundaries. Dexter is a sensitive young boy and an absolute joy.. he has been amazing outside in both field and forestry and responds well to the whistle for recall . He has been incredible with puppy Finn…

Grass Seeds

Tuesday 23rd July 2024

Grass Seeds are a major problem this year .. ( in fact the worst I have known!!). Dogs are checked on our return home and this is what I am finding ..! All paws clipped out this pm ! If your dog is presenting as limping , or constantly chewing/licking around areas please seek your vet's advice ... a grass seed that finds its way in to your dogs body can be very painful and also dangerous to their health .. if unsure please seek your vet's advice.

Finn ( AKA Mr Wobble)

Saturday 13th July 2024

Update on Finn (Mr Wobble) Pictured here with Vet Josh Shepton Vets who has worked on Finns Case .. The blood results came back on Wednesday negative for Neospora (Thank goodness) .. X-rays were then taken on Thursday focusing around the neck and spine which all looked okay .. Through process of elimination Finn has been diagnosed with a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia which the vet had mentioned the possibility of this at the beginning.. Cerebellar Hypoplasia is a condition where the cerebellum fails to fully develop. It is usually caused by underdevelopment of the cerebellum while the puppy is in utero. Uncoordinated movements such as abnormal gait, general clumsiness and unsteadiness on paws.. frequent falling over ,…

Finn ( AKA Mr Wobble)

Tuesday 9th July 2024

Meet Little Finn (AKA Mr.Wobble) Aged 9/10 weeks Very loving little pup! We were contacted with urgency to help this little one the evening before we went on holiday and Thankfully were able to place him in experienced hands whilst we were away.. Finn has slotted in very well here with the dogs and enjoys their company .. equally he is happy on his own and will take himself to bed when he is tired .. though he will do the rounds to see which bed feels the most comfortable! 😉 Finn is currently awaiting his blood test results for Neospora. He has a wobbly gait both front and back legs with hind limbs pretty stiff. We are currently able to…

Suzie

Friday 14th June 2024

5 year old Suzie one of our long term Rescues had this blade of grass removed on Wednesday by Vet Josh Shepton Vets. Her symptoms pointed to having ingested something as they came on suddenly whilst we were out (coughing, retching and later producing a lot of mucus) I was so relieved to get a call on Wednesday afternoon from Josh to say 'Success' after he had located and removed the 5" blade of grass which was located at the base of her trachea.. Suzie is clearly so much happier and back to her normal self .. This little one has come so far in the two years she has been with us and her barriers of…

LIZZIE (Was Fizz)

Wednesday 22nd May 2024

Another Sad Farewell to Lizzie (was Fizz) Who sadly lost the use of her back legs and at an age of 14/15 years the decision was made upon the vet's advice for her to peacefully go to sleep ... This is a video I made of Fizz as she was when I knew her .. She had been reported to the dog warden by concerned neighbours as she never went out for walks and the owner was not in the best health .... The dog warden contacted me and asked if there was any way we could help out .. and so began this spaniels journey ! Long story short I met and spoke with the owner…

Willow

Monday 20th May 2024

A Sad farewell to Willow ... one of the hardest decisions to make .. especially for her foster mum . You may recall Willow underwent surgery on her elbow last year which sadly was not successful and was redone .. rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, was all taken care of by the owner of Chapel Farm Rehab Clare ( who was foster mum) and when we thought everything was going in the right direction Willow then presented as non weight bearing on her other front leg ... which after a lengthy process revealed a very bad fracture .... After all this treatment and rehabilitation the decision was made to heartbreakingly end her life, after consulting with the vet this was the best…

Dexter

Thursday 2nd May 2024

The handsome Dexter will be going forward to A&S Police on trial next week .. I met with them this morning and this boy impressed everyone. I felt inwardly proud of how well Dexter did having just turned 6 months old! I have enjoyed having him around...I will be honest and looked at ways of keeping and training him for myself but 7 permanent dogs is one too many ... ! Dexter has gone from no interest in the ball to highly ball focused, we have played ball search games in different environments which never phased him and he has been and is an absolute joy .. I wish this boy well for his trial period as he has a…
