Know what to do... THIS HAPPENED TO MY DOG

The changing face of my dog bitten by an Adder 30th October 2017.
Dinky aged 9 years old, and a fabulous little dog...I photographed the changes over a 24, 48, 72 , 96 hour period. She is a very lucky little girl. I had taken the dogs out on heathland,a great training ground and normally safe this time of year. an area avoided in the summer due to Adders!! Sadly Dinky was very unlucky.
She did not yelp, she is a very stoic little dog.
IF YOU SUSPECT AN ADDER BITE..
Seek immediate vetinary attention, even if your dog is not showing obvious signs of a bite..Your vet will be able to carry out a thorough examination and if a snakebite is diagnosed carry out trearment immediately. A snakebite that is not treated can lead to serious problems including inceased swelling and bruising and can affect blood clotting,. Can also be fatal!!! My vet was amazing, he maintained a vigil by her side and I have him to thank for ensuring Dinky pulled through. Puncture marks are not always visible due to swelling and bruising until a few days later (which could be too late if not properly treated) and not always visable from the outside...Look inside the cheeks!
Dinky's puncture wounds had gone right through the cheek and on day 3 could clearly be seen!!
BRAR will be producing a fact sheet with pictures on what to do if you suspect your dog has been bitten by an adder.
Thank fully my little girl has made a full recovery..
